I had a client this morning who was living paycheck to paycheck and in need of a Chapter 7 bankruptcy.   She informed me of her assets and debts and then asked me a few questions regarding the impact of a bankruptcy filing.    One of her questions was how will bankruptcy impact her ability to continue to receive food stamps?

The filing of a bankruptcy can help a debtor eliminate any of their unsecured debts or secured debts that they are surrendering.  It basically gives the debtor a fresh start.   Regarding the client’s question, the bankruptcy will have no impact on her receiving food stamps and it will have no impact on her applying for other subsidies that she may require in the future.
